The National Card and Payment Scheme increased to BGN 100 the limit for contactless payment with a Bcard without using a PIN
14 April 2020

From 14 April, holders of contactless Bcard cards can pay amounts up to BGN 100 without the need to enter a PIN code. The service is available at over 20 000 terminals in the network of BORICA AD. The limit change was imposed in relation to the measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and the recommendations of the European Banking Authority and the Bulgarian National Bank of 25 March 2020. ‘At this time it is of paramount importance for all parties to the process to rally our efforts and implement the limit change as soon as possible, with a view to ensuring safer conditions for cardholders,’ shared Stoilka Arsova, Director of the National Card and Payment Scheme. Bcard issuers and acquirers of Bcard payments started the timely implementation of the new functionality in their systems, cards and terminals. For terminals of external service centers, for which certification is still underway, the change will be included in the certification process of each institution. We recall that the implementation of the contactless technology for the cards of the Bcard brand is among the Scheme’s key priorities for 2020.
